In 1982, I had an accident which caused my left foot to contract gangrene. My amputation was on February 22, 1982 at the age of 21 years old. At the time, I was an iron worker. My amputation left me without a profession, and I felt like my life was over. However, I met a prosthetist named Scot. Scot helped me transition into wearing a prosthetic. By the time I was 22 years old, I became a pipe fitter. With Scot's help, I had completely renewed my life within one year after my amputation. At the time, I was 6’5” and weighed 250 pounds. I was concerned if my prosthetic would be able to withstand my lifestyle or myself.
Today, I am 54 years old and have been pipe fitting for 32 years! I work high up on the sides of buildings and construction sites. My prosthetic has been extremely durable and allowed me to accomplish things I never thought were possible. Even though my prosthetic was extremely durable, my rough lifestyle would eventually cause some parts to wear out or break. No matter what, Scot would fit it! I could always count on him! Scot doesn’t treat me like I have a disability. He treats me the same as everyone else. I am glad to be Scot's patient and a patient of Advanced Prothetics. Can’t say enough good things…
